The Monterey History and Art Association presents the "Year of the Missions" exhibition series beginning Nov. 24.
The first of four rotating exhibits will be "Junípero Serra Before California: Five World Heritage Site Churches in Mexico's Remote Sierra Gorda." It opens at 3p.m. Nov. 24 at the Museum of Monterey.
The Serra exhibit features photographs by Jeffrey Becom and drawings by Richard Perry.
Other exhibits include: "Riding the Mission Trail in 1903 with Artist Jo Mora," opening Feb. 1, 2013; "Missions of California & the Southwest" by Will Sparks, opening May 10, 2013; "Picturing California Missions in Ruin & Restoration" opening Aug.10, 2013.
The exhibits were curated by Julianne Burton-Carvajal to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Franciscan missionary Junípero Serra's birth.

'Sounds of the Season!' opens at Sunset
Monterey Peninsula Voices, formerly the Monterey Peninsula Choral Society, presents its annual "Sounds of the Season!" winter concert Dec. 18 in Carmel.
The event takes place at 8p.m. at the Sunset Center, Ninth Avenue and San Carlos Street, Carmel.
Conductor Sean Boulware will oversee the program. Selections include the humorous "She Goes Shopping for Gucci" and "The 12 Days of Christmas," as well as "All My Heart, On This Night Rejoices!" and "Gloria."
Tickets are $25 adult, $15 children 16 and under.
Video contest promotes student wellness
California high school students are invited to submit videos for a statewide contest to promote suicide prevention and mental health and wellness for students.
Students can win by entering a 60-second public service announcement about suicide prevention or eliminating mental illness stigma. The contest rules and other instructions are available at DirectingChange.org.
The top prize is $1,000 cash. Deadline is March 1, 2013.
Get ready to sing 'Messiah' with I Cantori
I Cantori and the Carmel Mission presents its annual community singalong performance of "Messiah" at 3p.m. Sunday.
The event takes place at Carmel Mission Basilica, 3080 Rio Road, Carmel.
Donations are accepted and will benefit I Cantori and the Mission Restoration fund.
