The South Salt Lake Police Department is inviting the public to drop off unused and expired prescription medication as well as over the counter drugs so they can be disposed of safely. The program is free and confidential and no paperwork is required.
According to a news release on the program, one in five teens has intentionally misused someone else's prescription drugs. Nearly half say they get the medications from friends and relatives by taking them from medicine cabinets or at "pharming parties." Also, drugs that are thrown away can end up in the drinking water supply.
The department is at 2835 S. Main St., South Salt Lake. All liquids should be in tightly sealed containers.
